When I had the opportunity to review and make a project from Teresa Barreu's book Turnabout Patchwork I was excited. Six basic blocks with twenty three variations. For the most part they are pre-cut friendly which works great if you love scrappy. Teresa gives short to the point simplistic instructions for the six blocks. The book shows several quilt variations by just cutting the blocks up, flipping them around and sewing them back together. If it sounds simple, that's because it is.
My quilty cousin gave me a layer cake last year and I had yet to use it. Since I needed HST for the Swirl quilt, pre-cuts work. I have a hard time going totally scrappy, so I paired up my fabrics with a light & dark of the same print. At first I wondered why Teresa chose the method she did for making the HST. I tried it out her way then mine and hers takes a lot less time at the machine even though the end result is the same. It's hard to believe the blocks started out with four half square triangles!
I don't have the quilt fully together yet, but here is the center four. I was happy with all of the fabric combinations except the one in the bottom right corner. As soon as I finish getting it together I will do an update blog post. Keep a check for it, the title will be "Turnabout Patchwork Part Two." Until then, here's how it's looking...
The half square triangles on the bottom row are place holders so I know what block will go where. I was really trying to get this beauty done before today!
It's always fun to participate in blog hops, but even more so when you can make something you will use and enjoy! I am making the Swirl Variation a little smaller and will use it as a wall hanging during the fall. It will perfectly coordinate with "The Fall Quilt."
