Choosing Coordinating Fabrics

The question has been asked many time about how to choose coordinating colors. My answer is simple...

1) What colors do you like? What do you want to make your main color?

2) Find beautiful (to you) photos and study the color. I love landscape photos. Nature is so vivid, every season brings something different. I've taken so many pictures of the farm, I often pull those up for inspirationn.

3) What other colors do you see? Does your quilt pattern need lighter or darker colors? When you're studying the picture find those. If you love your picture, but it isn't giving you enough color variations, sit it aside for future inspiration.

4) Start a binder or file on your computer just for inspiration pictures. When you're ready to go get the fabrics, take your picture with you. It will help you stay on track.

I absolutely love this picture. Do you see the one cow in the very center? That's one reason I like it so much. Strange right? I guess it's just that farm girl!

I have highlighted at least eight colors that stand out. I could find more color combinations. Can you see a beautiful quilt in these colors?

Next time you're struggling with color combos, take a look at your favorite pictures. Inspiration is everywhere.
