Gemstone: Ruby

Stone Name: Carbuncle

Modern Recognition: Ruby or Garnet (Gemologist recognize the stone as a Garnet, Bible scholars who study Hebrew translate the word Carbuncle to Ruby.

About: Carbuncle is the next hardest and most expensive precious gem next to diamonds in ancient and modern times. Both Gemologist and Bible scholars agree on this. In the Bible there are several other references to Rubies, including "a virtuous woman...her price is above rubies." (Proverbs 31:10) There are a couple other places that refer to wisdom being above rubies. Proverbs 3:10; Proverbs 8:11; Proverbs 20:10). Gemologist refer to ancient Carbuncle as Garnet. Regardless of the modern recognition or Hebrew translation, the stone is a deep red. Whether it is a Ruby or Garnet, they both are beautiful!

Birthstone: Common: July ... Zodiac: January

The Bible does not specify which stone represents which tribe. Among some scholars it is believed that Carbuncle represents the tribe Levi.

*I am not a Bible scholar nor gemologist. I used the verses Ex. 28: 17-20 for the stone names and modern stone recognition to design the block layout and color.*
