His mercies are new every day.
This past week was an emotional and depressing week. It was hard. Even though I have a quilt due for a magazine publication and time is running out, I had to take the day off on Saturday. I've yet to read the book, but the gist of it is that the Sabbath is still important. It is called, "Stop in the Name of God," the last book that Charlie Kirk wrote. For Christians, the Sabbath is often replaced by Sunday day of rest and worship at church. As the church pianist and often soloist, along with other things, Sunday isn't truely a day of rest.
This weekend I needed that day of no social media. No work, not even cooking. Just leftovers. I should have done laundry and a couple other things that have gone undone because of my tight work deadline. Some days I have spent 10 hours or more on a quilt. I needed Saturday. By the end of the day, I had what felt a peace that had been lacking for a couple of weeks. I was somewhat more emotionally stable, though the day still brought tears a couple of times. My heart ached for families whose pain was brought back in full force. It was the day their loved one passed and lives changed forever. I know from personal experience, the weeks following that day can bring up emotions that you had thought you had passed.
The scripture verse about God's mercy is new every day kept going through my mind, along with Ephesians 6:10-13. They brought a sense of comfort, an understanding, and great reminder. The day was greaty needed.
Sunday I woke up with the feeling of I can't wait to get to church and lay my burdens at the cross. Not that I can't do that a home, but there is something special about going somewhere besides home and leaving it behind. I came home with a renewed spirit. It was good.
