Quilt Block Mania: September 2021

I am so excited! This is my last sunbonnet block, I have had so much fun creating these. This months theme, traditional block with a twist, is so perfect for the last block. I have to remake October & November 2020 blocks because I turned one into a wall hanging and the other a pillow (totally cute)! I have two blocks already made I need to quilt. I have a lot of hand quilting to finish before I can put this adorable quilt together since I am using the quilt as you go method. My goal is still the beginning of October. Are you making the quilt? I'd love to see your blocks and finished quilt!

Onto this month's block. Traditional with a twist... I used three traditional mini-quilts and one modern mini. The quilts are a variety of purples. The wall is an lime green. To include all of the colors, Sue and the floor are blues.

If you're thing this looks complicated, it really isn't that bad. I don't like complicated! If you're not up for all the quilts, do a couple nine patches or fabric strips and then applique them down.

For the "Look & Love" sign, I printed it onto my fabric and then heat set it. I thought about embroidering over it but I decided the print looks more like a sign.

If you're anything like me when I see fabric or quilts I just want to touch them. How about you? It is so tempting and hard to resist!

For the "Quilt Block Exhibit" banner I did embroider over the print. "2021" isn't apart of the directions but I thought this was the perfect way to add the completion year to the quilt. I matched the words to one of the purples and used a lime green for the year.

I'm totally in love with this block! One more embellishment is the yo-yo flowers in the basket block. Their fabric coordinate with Sue's dress. What do you think? Are they too big? At first I thought so but they grew on me.

If you are making the quilt, the directions include how to add the border. I always choose a coordinating color. I found this cute purple fabric in my scrap box that was perfect.

You can download the pattern here or from the "Free Pattern" page. (The other blocks are available to download there also.
