Jasper is a opaque stone that gets the red color from iron. This stone can also be yellow, brown and even green. The Hebrew name is Yahalom and some scholars believe it to represent the tribe of Gad. The Bible mentions Jasper several times, including Job 28:18, Ezekiel 28:13, Revelation 4:3 and several times in Revelation chapter 21.
The more I read about Jasper, it became clear what we identify it as today probably wasn't what it was as a stone in the breastplate. It is more likely it was a green. Ancient Jasper artifacts have been green stones, some of which are transparent. For the sake of the quilt, I stuck with the iron-red color.
As time progressed, I learned the quickest way to make blocks is to baste and clip them together by sections.
I'm happy with the way it turned out!
