This months block has 144 pieces! Don't fret though, you don't need to cut all of those pieces now... unless you want to do so.

Our block is an old-fashioned, one of a kind, postage stamp block with 1" finished squares. Which means you will need 1.5" squares to start with. I will be making this block as I go along this year. It is super scrappy with no real rhyme or reason. Although, you could take it to the next level and do some fun layouts.
As I cut out my QBM blocks, I'll save any scraps that normally would have been tossed if it is greater than 1.5". I have a little basket to keep the scraps in. After there is a decent amount gathered, I will start foundation piecing with them. Remember, no reasoning so I don't need to worry about them matching. Each strip has six squares. We will need a total of 24 of these strips.

After we have them pieced, we can either tear off the backing before they are sewn together or after they are sewn together. Regardless of which way you choose, we will be sewing to strips together length ways (A1 and A6 end-to-end), which will result in 12 rows. The rows will then be sewn together to create our 12.5" unfinished block.
One thing that is nice about foundation piecing is you don't have to cut your pieces 144 (1.5" x 1.5") squares. They will just happen along the way! I look forward to seeing your postage stamp sampler block in December 2026!
Side note: This would be a fun block for a long-term memory quilt of sorts. Just keep a few of the foundation strips printed and when you have been cutting out fabric stitch up a couple strips. After a few years of collecting the units, you could make a nice quilt with tidbits of love from all of year projects the next few years.
Like last year, If you have already subscribed to my mailing list, you will be getting the pattern sent directly to you. If you would like this month's block and have not subscribed yet, you can here. I have to manually send out the emails, so if you don't get it right away, I promise you will!
I hope you have a great February! Don't forget to stop by and check out the other designers quilt blocks.
