This months theme puzzled me at first. With it being the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independance, I wanted to incorporate a patriotic block at some point. After taking a look at the remaining themes, I chose to do an artsy-flag.
If you know me much, I love patriotic quilts but not a fan of flag quilts. I will never forget the respect my grandfather who fought in the Korean War had for the American flag. He found it disrespectful to wear flag clothing, hats, or to haphazardly handle our the flag. There's a part of me that has never loved flag quilts because of my grandfather. All of that to say: It felt a little strange making this block.
